Application Requirements
- Applicants must be born nationals or have citizenship in Bangladesh.
- Applicants should have a minimum GPA of 4.50 on a scale of 5.00 in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC)/Madrasa Education Board/Technical Education Board examinations or an equivalent foreign examination.
- For the academic year 2023, candidates from the Science group in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or equivalent examination conducted by the education boards or technical education board must achieve a minimum GPA of 4.50 on a scale of 5.00, along with a total grade point of at least 18.50 in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English.
- The list of eligible candidates for the written examination based on merit in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry in the Higher Secondary Examination will be published on the university’s website and communicated through SMS. Approximately 7,200 candidates will be eligible.
- Candidates with GCE ‘O’ Level and GCE ‘A’ Level qualifications must obtain separate ‘A’ grades in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English in the GCE ‘O’ Level examination to be eligible for participation in the admission test. In the GCE ‘A’ Level examination, separate ‘A’ grades are required in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics
Admission Test Marks Distribution
BUTEX written admission test will be conducted out of a total of 200 marks. Each question will carry 2 marks, and there will be a total of 100 questions. There will be no options for the questions, meaning the explanation and numerical solution for each question must be provided in the designated space.

- BUTEX written examination will be conducted based on the short syllabus of the Higher Secondary Examinations conducted by the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Boards.
- The question paper will be available in both Bengali and English.
- During the admission test, no programmable calculator, restricted electronic devices, smartwatches, mobile phones, or any smart devices can be kept or used, except for the designated model calculators published on the university’s website.
- If any candidate is found using unfair means during the admission test, their exam will be declared null and void.

BUTEX Application Procedure
- Primary Application
For BUTEX admission test application, send an SMS through a Teletalk prepaid mobile phone. Go to the message option and type BUT<space>First three letters of the HSC Education Board’s name<space>HSC exam roll number<space>Year of HSC pass<space>First three letters of the SSC Education Board’s name<space>SSC exam roll number<space>Year of SSC pass. Send the message to 16222.
Example: BUT DHA 123456 2023 DHA 654321 2021 (for Dhaka Board). Here, replace 123456 with the HSC roll and 654321 with the SSC roll.
Short codes for different boards: Dhaka (DHA), Rajshahi (RAJ), Chittagong (CHA), Dinajpur (DIN), Sylhet (SYL), Jessore (JAS), Comilla (CUM), Barisal (BAR), Mymensingh (MYM), Madrasa (MAD), Technical (TEC or VOC), English Medium (GCE).
After sending the first SMS, if all the information is correct and the candidate is eligible, they will receive another SMS with the applicant’s name, admission test fee, and a PIN number. To confirm, the applicant needs to send another SMS to 16222 with BUT<space>YES<space>PIN number<space>Applicant’s mobile number. For example: BUT YES 87654321 01**********.
The confirmation reply will be sent with a message like: “Application fee received successfully for BUTEX admission: 2023-2024, Receipt ID: 1**********. Eligible list of written test will be notified by SMS & published at www.butex.edu.bd.”
Note: Once an SMS is sent for application, it cannot be repeated. The confirmation reply will confirm the deduction of the admission test application fee of Tk 300/-. If there is sufficient balance in the applicant’s Teletalk prepaid mobile, the fee will be deducted.
Applicants who receive the PIN number successfully through the first SMS can send the second SMS for payment within the next 24 hours, until 11:59 PM on the specified date (e.g., 20/02/24).
Applicants must have an adequate amount of money in their Teletalk prepaid mobile to cover the specified fee for the admission test. After sending the SMS, a Confirmation Reply will be sent. Once an SMS is sent for application, it cannot be repeated. The Confirmation Reply will include the message: “Application fee received successfully for BUTEX admission: 2023-2024, Receipt ID: 1XXXXXXX. Eligible list of written test will be notified by SMS & published at www.butex.edu.bd.”
- Written Test Application
The list of eligible candidates for the written test will be published on 25/02/24. The list of candidates prepared based on the total marks obtained in the Higher Secondary Examination in mathematics, physics, and chemistry will be published on the university’s website.
To apply for the written test, eligible candidates must send an SMS through a Teletalk prepaid mobile phone. Go to the message option and type BUT<space>First three letters of the HSC Education Board’s name<space>HSC exam roll number<space>Year of HSC pass<space>First three letters of the SSC Education Board’s name<space>SSC exam roll number<space>Year of SSC pass. Send the message to 16222.
Example: BUT DHA 123456 2023 DHA 654321 2021 (for Dhaka Board). Here, replace 123456 with the HSC roll and 654321 with the SSC roll.
BUTEX Admit Card 2024
After paying the written test fee of Tk 1000/- (one thousand) through http://but.teletalk.com.bd, applicants need to browse the website. By clicking on the BUT Admission option and logging in with their User ID and Password, applicants can view their information and find options for uploading their photo and signature. Once all information is submitted correctly, applicants can download the admit card, including the roll number, photo, and signature immediately. BUTEX admit card must be printed in color. The admit card collection period is from 26/02/24 to 05/03/24.
Result Publication, Candidate, and Department Selection
BUTEX admission test result will be published on the university’s notice board and website (www.butex.edu.bd). The merit list will be prepared based on the marks obtained in the admission test, and the top 3000 candidates will be listed. A merit list will not be published for candidates scoring below 40% in the written test (applicable to all categories). However, the admission committee may adjust the 40% mark and the mentioned number if necessary. The division and department will be determined through interviews based on the candidate’s merit and preference.
User ID and Password Recovery
If an applicant forgets their BUTEX admission application User ID or Password, they can recover it through the following methods:
To recover User ID, send an SMS to 16222 with the message: BUT HELP USER <space> User ID. Example: BUT HELP USER 87654321. A return SMS will provide the User ID.
If both User ID and Password are forgotten, send an SMS to 16222 with the message: BUT HELP PIN <space> PIN number. Example: BUT HELP PIN 87654321. A return SMS will provide the User ID and Password.
If User ID, Password, and PIN number are forgotten, send an SMS to 16222 with the message: BUT HELP <space> HSC Board’s first three letters <space> HSC exam roll number <space> Year of HSC pass. Example: BUT HELP DHA 123456 2023. A return SMS will provide the User ID, Password, and PIN.”
